CardBrowser Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How does CardBrowser compile the tradeshow calendar of events that we attend?

Our research staff finds events listed in dozens of high-tech periodicals, on software and technology company websites, in online tradeshow directories, and other industry resources that we utilize.

Can a customer request us to attend an event not listed on the CardBrowser calendar?

Yes. Customer requests are another way that we compile our event calendar. Each year we attend many tradeshows that are requested by CardBrowser customers. The only criteria is that it must be a high-tech tradeshow.

Does CardBrowser physically attend every one of these tradeshows?

Yes. A CardBrowser employee, contractor, or field agent has physically attended every event listed in our tradeshow directory. We don't buy lists from tradeshow vendors or re-compile information from their show guides.

Does CardBrowser collect business cards from the IT buyers and attendees at the tradeshows or just from the exhibitors?

We only collect business cards from the exhibitors. We do not collect cards from the IT buyers and attendees.

Does CardBrowser have a breakdown of titles in our database?

We are acquiring new business cards with unique titles at an extremely rapid pace. This makes it difficult for us to track and report official demographics. The users who have been most pleased with CardBrowser are those targeting individuals with the following titles: CEO, President, GM, EVP, SVP, Vice President of Sales/Marketing, Director of Sales/Marketing, Product Marketing Manager, Business Development, Pre-Sales Engineer, Channel Sales Manager, Account Executive/Manager, Federal Sales, and like titles.

Do people know that their business card is in the CardBrowser database?

Some people do, but most people don't. We are there networking and collecting business cards like most of the exhibitors and attendees. And we are doing it for the same reasons - to build up a valuable database of industry contacts. The only differences are that we attend many more tradeshows and we sell our contact information (similar to the way list vendors compile and sell contact information, except of course we are dealing with business cards that contain direct-dial and mobile phone numbers and 100% accurate email addresses).

Why do people give their business cards to CardBrowser?

Tradeshows are the perfect place to collect business cards. Most vendors have trained themselves to hand out their business card at tradeshows - and they are exhibiting with hundreds of cards stuffed in their vest pocket waiting to do so. Some people are so anxious to hand out their business cards that they leave them on tabletops for any one who wants a card. Others will exchange cards with our staff in order to extend their industry network of contacts. There are some who want to be in the CardBrowser database because they know that CIOs and IT Buyers are likely to use CardBrowser in order to research potential vendors. We run in to very few people at each tradeshow who do not want to give us their business card.

Do people request to have their business cards removed from the CardBrowser database?

CardBrowser has been operating since December 2001. There are currently 150,000 business cards online and less then 10 people have asked for their card to be removed from the CardBrowser database.

Who uses CardBrowser - and can anyone sign up for the service?

We provide the CardBrowser service to search firms, corporate recruiters, and companies who sell products and services to high-tech companies. We pre-screen every CardBrowser user to verify that they have a value-added product or service for the high-tech community. We do not permit access to companies like mass-marketers who are looking for email addresses to spam.

How does CardBrowser protect against spam?

First by pre-screening our users as described above. Second by our terms of service which all subscribers agree to abide by when they sign on for the CardBrowser service. The CardBrowser terms of service discourage sending mass unsolicited email to the business card email addresses in our database. We encourage customers to reach out to the contacts by tradeshow, with a relevant and informative message.

Does CardBrowser delete old business cards from the database?

No. We date-stamp and archive every card. That way a customer can search for cards by date (last 30 days, last 90 days, last 12 months, etc.) to find what they are looking for. But an old card is not a dead contact. Someone who was handpicked to represent their company at a tradeshow two years ago may still be with the company - and thus be an even more valuable contact. Someone else from a tradeshow two years ago might be a company founder or c-level executive who is still likely to be with the company. Business cards often contain contact information that outlives a person's employment-like a mobile phone or remote office phone number. Business cards are also a great way for our customers to research new companies-even if the contact person is no longer there. So for these reasons we do not delete business cards. But if you are looking for fresh new contact information, then keep in mind that CardBrowser collects and uploads fresh new business cards every week - which adds up to 25,000 to 30,000+ fresh new business cards every year.
